2002 IPMS NATS at Virginia Beach

We took a whole week for this trip, embarking upon an unguided tour of the upper-mid East Coast on our way to the show. I've included a number of shots from along the way, including Gettysburg and the Smithsonian in D.C.

First up: GETTYSBURG
This is mostly a buncha shots of, in and around the battlefield, as well as a few shots of Dan the Man and the Goon. The highlight AND lowlight of Gettysburg had to be "Big Round Top", which is the hill centered in the third shot on the bottom row. We climbed that SOB in about ten minutes. Now, that wouldn't have been so bad except for the fact that we had had a furious thunderstorm about 20-30 minutes earlier and I swear the humidity was 1000%.

Anyhoo, the small stone observation castle you see on the top row of photos can also be seen in the third shot on the bottom. Look for the tiny gray "L" shaped speck near the top of the tree line on the left side of the photo. This is "Little Round Top", and a magnificent view of the battlefield could be had from that spot, as well as the "Devil's Den" which is seen in the fourth shot from the right on the top row. That last photo shows the Goon descending the huge observation tower southeast of the battlefield. It was quite windy that day and that tower seemed like it'd collapse... =/

Up next: D.C.

SVASMCON 2002

This is always a good show with alotta really nice built-ups and great dealers. 2002's edition was no exception, although the numbers were down a bit. As usual, we set out at O-dark-thirty in order to arrive at a reasonable hour, get a jump on the dealers and hang out with the boyz...
